Tuesday Update – South America
Thomas CotterellShare
SOUTH America is a wonderful continent for mineral collectors. From the metal-rich volcanically driven mineral deposits in the west, following nearly the entire length of the Andean mountain chain, to gem pegmatites in the granites of Brazil, and metamorphic gem Emeralds in Colombia in the north, the diversity and quality is enormous.
Today’s listing of specimens shows this range, with exceptionally well-crystallized sulphosalt species, attractive green Fluorite and even Native Gold from the epithermal vein and porphyry-style mineral deposits within the high mountains of the Andes. Stunning crystallized Native Gold’s from the placer deposits within the rainforests of Venezuela and magnificent colour-zoned Elbaite tourmalines from the famous pegmatites of Brazil in Minas Gerais state. There are also new finds from Peru, including really unusual celestial blue chalcedony pseudomorphs after stalactitic growths of Anhydrite and beautiful sprays of delicate acicular to bladed sprays of Epidote nicely combined with Axinite-(Mn) and Quartz.
Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Bakewell Show in Derbyshire on Saturday and Sunday. The attendance on Saturday was phenomenal, and it was great to see a strong international audience too. Sunday, as usual, was quieter, but I think that everyone agreed that it was a very successful weekend.
Bakewell is the largest weekend-long mineral show in the UK, but the Sussex Mineral Show in Hayward’s Heath in November is arguably the largest one-day event in our British calendar, and we will be exhibiting there on Saturday November 14.
For the week of Munich, our update will of course be European, so whilst we are setting up at the show you will still be able to enjoy what we have to offer online.
Please note: Today's featured specimens are situated at both our US and UK showrooms.v
