Detailed information
The sharpness and definition of the 'cogwheel' twinned Bournonite crystals from Viboras mine, at Machacamarca in Potosí Department, Bolivia is exceptional and puts some of the older classic Bournonite occurrences to shame. However, many collectors obsess over historical pedigree but, for sheer quality, this extremely large miniature specimen has superb display potential. At 2.4 cm across, the main Bournonite crystal is not only very large for the species, but is perfectly freestanding above its finely crystallized Freibergite matrix, and it is exceptionally bright, reflective and glossy on all sides and a dark gunmetal-grey colour. Its stepped, cogwheel-like edges present very nice parallel growth lines and another smaller Bournonite crystal sits lower down on the matrix. A world-class crystallized Bournonite that shows the perfect iconic twinned crystal habit that everyone associates with the species.
