With a heavenly, celestial-blue colour, this small cabinet-sized aggregate of stalactitite like growths is actually an unusual pseudomorph of chalcedonic Quartz after Anhydrite. It is from a small, relatively new discovery in the far south of Peru, at Rumipata in Ichuña District, General Sánchez Cerro Province. Across its base the internal, almost tube, or stalactite-like form of the original Anhydrite can be seen, but its crystal structure is best seen as small angled blocky crystals protruding from the sides of each stalactite. Totally replaced by silica, the colour of the Chalcedony appears to have been influenced by the original Anhydrite. Very pretty and with a really unusual appearance, this is a really fascinating type of pseudomorph. The longest 'finger' on this piece reaches around 3 cm in length.
