Known for quite distinctively coloured tabular Wulfenite crystals of a butterscotch to brownish appearance, this marvellous miniature specimen from Tsumeb mine takes things in a different direction, with pink matrix. With really well-formed Wulfenite crystals to over 2 cm on edge rising up spectacularly in a freestanding manner this piece already has much going for it, especially as these crystals are in excellent condition - one has a corner nibbled, but overall is extremely fine for such a delicate species. The bevelled edges to the Wulfenite crystals are fine too, as is their excellent resinous lustre. The pink matrix is Cobaltoan Smithsonite (or perhaps Cobaltoan Dolomite) and is a really unusually combination for Tsumeb, or indeed anywhere. Very pretty indeed and ex Weyand Collection.
