This cabinet-sized cluster of colourless, Rock Crystal Quartz presents an extremely unusual and distinctive crystal habit, as strikingly tapered, pointed crystals, where their pyramidal faces extend for almost their entire length to the detriment of any prism sides. This habit of Quartz crystal is often called the 'Tessin' habit after the Ticino/Tessin canton in Switzerland where it was first found and from where this beauty is from. Extremely glassy and spraying out artistically in many directions from a Milky Quartz base, this is a spectacular piece from a famous old-time alpine-type occurrence where specimens are now very rarely seen either in collections or available for sale. There is some visible damage to a few of the very pointed tips of these Quartz crystals, but this is both a very large and sculptural specimen from this famous site near Olivone in the Blenio Valley, Ticino, southern Switzerland. It is from the fabulous collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
