Usually thought for for its excellent finely acicular coatings of bright grass-green Pyromorphite on Quartz, the Saint-Salvy mine, near Tarn, Occitanie, in the southwest of France is often overshadowed by the colossus of Les Farges for its remarkably large crystals of Pyromorphite. This lovely miniature-sized plate of Pyromorphite from Saint-Salvy mine is actually quite different to the norm, but makes for a dramatic smaller display, with excellent, well-defined, green, seed-like curved prismatic crystals of Pyromorphite, to 8mm in length, stacked up above the thin gossanous matrix in a quite sculptural way. Some of these larger crystals show hopper-development at their terminations whilst underneath and on the matrix the paler yellow-green Pyromorphite displays the more typical acicular form for which this mine is known.
