Prehnite from La Combe de la Selle in the Isère region of Rhône-Alpes, France, is one of the great French classics, known for centuries, but still holding their own in terms of their distinctive curved, helmet-like, crystal form. Of course, in the early days of collecting provenance details were often vague and this is just the case here as it is recorded as from Bourg d'Oisans some 12 miles away. Very small cabinet in size, this richly crystallized Prehnite dates to the 19th century, having belonged to Dr. Friedrich (Fritz) Adolf Scharff (1812-1881). The crystals are nicely formed but don't present in an absolutely perfect aesthetic way, but this is a classic and is accompanied by an old typed Senckenberg (Frankfurt) label recording it as from the Scharff Collection. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
