Not only is this classic Alpine assemblage of Quartz and Adularia (K- Feldspar) from Maderanertal very pretty and a great size for display, but it is an old-timer too, being accompanied by a handwritten label believed to have been written by Dr. Friedrich Adolf Scharff (1812-1881). The label itself mentions the date 1857 which certainly fits. Looking carefully at the minerals present and its charm only grows stronger, with a freestanding group of well-formed parallel, doubly-terminated colourless Quartz crystals displaying an internal white 'thread', or Faden. The Adularia crystals are superb too, with classic pseudorhombic shape and stunning growth-lines along their surfaces. Calcite is also recorded, but is not so clear, but appears to be very thin bladed crystals tucked away in crevices, but overshadowed by the superb Quartz and Adularia. This really is a beautiful Alpine classic, but with real pedigree too. It is from the superb collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
