While Borcarite gets much of the attention from the new finds at Charcas due to its exceptional blue colour, the new Nifontovite crystals are equally world-class in their size and quality. Often they are individual, matrixless crystals, like icicles in their form, but this small cabinet specimen is more unusual in being a matrix-hosted example. Covered in many colourless, prismatic to bladed freestanding but criss-crossing Nifontovite crystals to 1 cm in length, these are not the largest Nifontovite crystals found there by any means, but it is certainly a very rich cluster of well-formed crystals of this extremely rare calcium borate hydroxide hydrate.
