This distinctive Malachite-coated dendritic Native Copper in Quartzite comes from the Monte Romero mine in Andalusia, Spain. It is from the Martin Kershaw Collection (no. 134) and although its full history is not recorded it appears to have been obtained by him in the 1960s. The only other specimens that we have seen from this locality are attributed to the collection of Henry Francis Collins (born 1866) who was a manager and engineer at the nearby Rio Tinto mines and possibly at Monte Romero too. His collection passed to Sir Arthur Russell who sold them on as he only collected British specimens. It is cabinet in size and forms a thin plate with the Native Copper dendrites lying flat across on side and extending up beyond the edge of the matrix as free-standing dendrites. A fine and rare locality piece from this older Spanish mine in the Iberian Pyrite Belt.
