Mimetite and Pyromorphite form a solid-solution series, the former being the arsenate-dominant form and the latter phosphate dominant. Perhaps surprisingly, there are far less notable occurrences of crystallized Mimetite in the world than there are Pyromorphite, making fine Mimetite specimens highly desirable. This extremely well-crystallized and vibrantly coloured pastel-orange larger thumbnail (or perhaps toenail) Mimetite comes from a very short-lived find at Pingtouling mine, Liannan Co., Qingyuan Prefecture, Guangdong Province, China, in 2003. Reportedly just two pockets of well-crystallized Mimetite were found and then nothing. The matrixless intergrown crystals of Mimetite on this specimen display hoppered terminations with crystals reaching to 1 cm in length. A lovely, solid, smaller aggregate of these wonderful Mimetite crystals from this important Chinese find.
