Detailed information

Species Malachite, Quartz
Dimensions 74 x 124 x 40 mm
Weight 302 g
Locality Mindingi Mine Kambove District Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Condition No recorded repairs
For its overall aesthetic appeal this is probably the finest Malachite specimen from the new find at Mindingi mine in Kambove District, DR Congo. Not only does is display the sumptuous, delightful 'cat's eye' style chatoyancy across each individual globule of Malachite so delightfully positioned down one side of the Quartz vein but it is totally 3-dimensional, with a flowing dark forest-green silky botryoidal layer of Malachite totally covering the other side of the piece but separated from the other side of the thin Quartz vein by an open cavity, the Malachite supporting itself with gorgeous velvety green acicular sprays behind the botryoidal surface. The biggest problem here - in fact the only problem with this specimen - is how to display it, as it is so stunning from every angle. There are a couple of very slight scuffs to the velvety surfaces of the Malachite balls, but this is in remarkable condition compared to most specimens from this new find.
