Their vibrant bluish lilac colour, exceptional transparency and fine glassy lustre make the best La Viesca mine Fluorite specimens from northern Spain not only instantly recognizable, but also extremely sought-after. This wonderful cabinet-sized display specimen has really great aesthetics, featuring many intergrown cubic Fluorite crystals (the largest reaching 1.7 cm on edge) gracefully rising up around the sides of finely crystallized Quartz matrix. Side-on, the already richly-coloured Fluorite crystals are seen to display excellent colour-zoning, from pale purple cores, through a thin bluish-purple zone outwards to an intense purple outer band. A few small scalenohedral Calcite crystals are dotted upon a couple of the Fluorite crystals, but most of the Fluorite is smooth and extremely glossy, of the highest quality lustre for Fluorite. There is some damage (chipping) to a few of the Fluorite crystals, but the overall quality of this piece is exceptional for the locality, and really does display extremely well. Ex Reverend Michael Keirle Collection (Jersey).
