Renowned for a wide range of extremely well-crystallized mineral species the Yaogangxian mine in Yizhang County, Hunan Province, China has become a favourite of mineral collectors the world over. Many of the specimens have nothing whatsoever to do with the main product of the mine - tungsten - but this superb small cabinet-sized specimen certainly does. That is because Yaogangxian mine has furnished collections with some of the most well-defined crystals of Ferberite - iron tungstate - and this lovely specimen shows their perfection in form extremely well. Upon it, a fan-like arrangement of glossy black bladed Ferberite crystals rise up from a partial section of a Quartz crystal. The Ferberite crystals, which reach up to 4.5 cm in length, continue around two sides of the specimen and are all in superb condition meaning that it can be presented in several orientations. A very classy Chinese Ferberite from the famous early 21st century finds.
