Cornetite, a very rare copper phosphate hydroxide species, was the first new species to be described from the Congo - named in 1951. This lovely flat plate which comes from Francis Coune's collection in Belgium and presents classic 'suns' of flat, radial, deep electric-blue sprays of Cornetite, many reaching 8 mm in diameter, upon a nicely contrasting pale cream-grey fine-grained rock matrix. It comes from the Type Locality of L'Etoile du Congo mine, at Lubumbashi in the Katanga Copper Crescent, but this style of Cornetite is very much of the 1990s finds.
