The Erzgebirge, or Ore Mountains, is a range of mountains separating Saxony in Germany and Bohemia in the Czech Republic known for their rich ore deposits from prehistory onwards. Despite many excellent well-formed twinned Cassiterite crystals having been collected from the Czech side of the mountains very few fine crystals are seen from the German side and even less on matrix. That makes this sensational double-sided, cabinet display specimen from Ehrenfriedersdorf an absolute wonder to behold. Not only is it in extremely fine condition but it has very large crystals too, reaching up to 3 cm across. It presents very much as a 'floater' with sharp, undamaged, extremely glossy black crystals liberally covering both sides, with one or two small Quartz crystals and some fine scatterings of purple Fluorite evident too. An elite-level Cassiterite and made even better by being from Saxony - a real German treasure.
