Found within limestone geodes, the waterclear, gem-like Calcite crystals found at Pau in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the far south-west of France in the early 2000s, and possibly in the 1980s too, are not only the finest Calcite crystals known from France, but also stand their own against many world occurrences too. Great larger crystals are rare, and rarer still on matrix, making this cabinet-sized specimen featuring not one, but two larger display quality colourless, glassy crystals, along with many smaller crystals lining the cavity, exceptional. The complexity of the crystal faces on these jewel-like crystals is amazing and likely represents twinning too. The largest crystal reaches 3.3 x 2.5 cm and the other 3.0 x 2.4 cm, both with no damage whatsoever. Simply glorious.
