This history behind this alpine-type specimen from Schmirn in the Tyrol, Austria is wonderful, but probably holds many more avenues for someone willing to spend the time to research. Its accompanying labels include a slightly damaged, but very detailed handwritten label from Dr. Friedrich (Fritz) Adolf Scharff (1812-1881) and a later (also slightly damaged) typed label from the Senckenberg (Frankfurt) which held Scharff's collection. Two other fascinating little labels include a lovely crystal sketch, presumably of the Albite crystal. The specimen is also nice, small cabinet in size and consisting of a bed of small, white, 'dog's tooth' Calcite crystals upon which a rounded aggregate of cream-coloured saddle-shaped Dolomite crystals sits at one end in super condition. However, the highlight of this piece, and what is mentioned on the earlier labels, is the glossy, colourless Albite crystals that standup from the surface of the Calcite. Crystallographically, these Albites are wonderful and obvious drew the attention of Scharff.
