Amethyst","description":"The optical clarity of this individual Quartz crystal from the Goboboseb Mountains in the Brandberg Area, Erongo Region, Namibia is exceptional. Structurally, this crystal, on first impression looks incomplete, or damaged, but closer inspection reveals it to be a complex skeletal form, with stepped internal surfaces exposed across its one side. From the front its main, broad sloping terminated pyramidal face, is recessed slightly, showing the skeletal development. On the back, this skeletal, hoppered form is far more visible, with superb stepped surfaces and hollow openings. Its purple Amethystine colour is confined to its termination and down the edges of its pyramidal faces, but this colour is remarkable - simply so intense. Lower down, the prism is colourless Rock Crystal, perhaps with a faintest hint of violet purple. There are sharp, fractured surfaces across the lower rear of the specimen and up one side, but these merge with the hoppered texture, making it difficult to know what is truly damage and what is natural growth features.
