The sheet is attached to a 5 mm thick shard of black shaly matrix, which is folded back against the reverse side of the specimen with a band of Native Silver acting as a hinge.  This could be to bend back in line with the plate but at the risk of breaking the points of attachment.  The Native Silver plate is less than 1 mm thick but is strong due to its malleability.  This displays a mottled surface of black streaked with metallic silver, frequently showing iridescent peacock colours of bronze, blue and mauve.
