That said, it is on a very thin bed of banded botryoidal Hematite var. Kidney Ore which is prone to de-laminating if impacted. The whole upper surface (approximately 6 x 13 cm) of the specimen is coated with Specularite crystals 1 to 3 mm in size and careful inspection shows that there is virtually no impact damage which is unusual with Specularite.
