From the classic locality of Elmwood mine at Carthage in Smith County, Tennessee, USA, well formed cubic Fluorite crystals of between approximately 2 and 4 cm on edge largely cover a matrix of glossy black, crystallized Sphalerite. The Fluorite ranges from milky cores to rich lilac faces, intensifying at along the edges and corners to blackberry purple. All the Fluorite crystals have a natural rough pitted texture, a feature well-known at Elmwood mine, yet are bright and lustrous.
