The Epidote crystals appear almost black in reflected light and when backlit are opaque with a rich apple-green rim around the edges where the thickness is sufficiently thin as to transmit light.  A second generation of micro, transparent to translucent bright apple-green Epidote has been deposited over the specimens, dusting the surfaces with pinpoint sparkling reflections.
