The famous Pederneira mine in the Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil is one. This off-matrix crystal, or rather group of parallel bladed crystals, is a magnificent example, showing the finest deep bottle-green colour and superb transparency as witnessed with backlighting. At 5.4 cm tall, this is not the largest gem tourmaline crystal by any stretch, but it is an absolute iconic classic, and presents the classic bladed shape, with steeply terminated crystal faces and no obvious damage other than chipping around its base. The individual crystals form at different heights, or lengths, creating a tower block appearance.
