It is in fact, Calcite, and under magnification this is supported by the translucency of the crystals and across the sides of the specimen where the layered banding can be seen its lustre is far more consistent with Calcite rather than Smithsonite. It is, nevertheless, a rather unusual Calcite for Berg Aukas, with a lovely showy form and in great condition.
