This large miniature is from the Christian-Levin mine at Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia, a mine within the Ruhr Coal Mining area.  Each Baryte plate measures between 2.0 and 2.8 cm wide, about 1.5 cm high and 4 mm thick, all with a bright glassy lustre.  The edges of the crystals are naturally ragged due to the way in which they have developed.
