The Tourmaline grades form a sea-green near its base, through shades of sea-green-blue to a gemmy termination of indigo. The termination itself is the flat pinacoid habit, but this extends to about 1 mm above the crystal as feathery, acicular rods and fibres of clear Tourmaline, what would be termed Achroite. In parallel growth with the Tourmaline is a translucent to transparent colourless Quartz crystal with a perfect termination adjacent, and of similar dimensions, to the Tourmaline. This single, ex-matrix crystal is an exquisite example from the mine, measuring a very presentable 5.2 cm tall and mounted on a clear square block of acrylic. As with almost all the Chrome Dravite from Nadonjukin, the interior of the crystal is a swirling mix of gemmy Tourmaline shot through with complex drapes, feathers, and planar features. These create a multi-faceted array of reflective surfaces which bounce-back incident light in a play of metallic amber, lime, chartreuse and chrome-greens. The prism grades from amber-olive through to intense electric-chrome over the top 1.5 cm, including its perfect termination. Much of this top zone is clear and gemmy, free from internal flaws. This remarkable survivor comes from the collection of John A. Jones in England, a renowned caver and mine explorer who began collecting in the 1950s. Often referred to as 'blue cap' tourmalines, they were the second known occurrence of this type of tourmaline after the Himalaya mine in California. This beautiful stubby Elbaite tourmaline crystal measures 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm and is partly embedded in a large translucent light-grey Quartz crystal of complex morphology. Superb gem tourmaline was mined there during the 1950s or 1960s but its quality was so good that most was sent for gem cutting, making individual crystals extremely rare. A more recent discovery, during the early 2000s, uncovered a very small pocket with just a handful of world-class gemmy Indicolite-green\/blue sceptre crystals. I am not certain, but I would place this fine large multi-parallel growth of prismatic Elbaite tourmaline crystals from this more recent find, but without the development of the sceptre. That said, it displays exceptional lustre and a super-intense gemmy green and light blue colour, particularly apparent when backlit.
