However, amongst the numerous nooks and crannies lurk some very fine crystals of the rare silver-mercury sulphide Imiterite, as metallic, silver-black perfect Roman sword crystals. Although admittedly hard to find, this specimen also has some very fine clusters of the equally rare silver-arsenic sulphosalt, Xanthoconite, as yellow-orange and light tan equant well-developed crystals. Cinnabar does occur on the specimen but is indistinct and difficult to clearly identify. Save for the Proustite, all other crystals are micro and require the use of a stereo microscope to see. This is normal for Imiterite and Xanthoconite as they do not occur in any larger form. It might seem obvious, but the Imiter mine is the Type Locality for Imiterite. The 'stems' and 'branches' of the specimen are all typically about 1 mm wide and deep and are composed entirely of intergrown Copper crystals. These are excellent and seen to better advantage under low magnification. Three mines work this hydrothermally sediment-enriched orebody, the N'Chwaning I, II and III mines, but specimens cannot often be attributed to a specific mine, hence the collective mine name. The Ettringite crystals attain around 9 x 8 x 6 mm and are all perfectly euhedral and undamaged, forming as doubly-terminated hexagonal prisms with pointed pyramidal hexagonal terminations. This specimen is from the famous Mashamba West mine at Kolwezi, Katanga, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Although outdated, this location commonly appears on older labels as Shaba, Zaire. This specimen also displays smaller Cuprite crystals to 2 cm. The crystal faces have a bright, sub-metallic lustre with naturally etched areas, typically more in the centre of each octahedral face. This is a fabulous and magnificent example of Cuprite from this well-known copper locality.","brand":"Crystal Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57780966981967,"sku":"CC1640","price":2368.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1011\/3748\/2063\/files\/CC1640_99cd317d-9592-41bf-8a8e-416765f67c60.jpg?v=1783972981"},{"product_id":"calcite-87","title":"CALCITE","description":"An excellent display of gemmy-translucent rhombic crystals of Calcite measuring to 4cm on edge with modified face-edges, on a Calcite crystal matrix from the Wessels Mine, South Africa.","brand":"Crystal Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57780968685903,"sku":"CC16515","price":1850.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1011\/3748\/2063\/files\/CC16515_8b761f9c-fa45-44b5-b5fd-752cd1fa2461.jpg?v=1783973066"},{"product_id":"charlesite","title":"'CHARLESITE'","description":"This rare, choice specimen from the celebrated Wessels mine in the Kalahari Manganese Fields, South Africa is previously documented as the chemically complex Ettringite group mineral Charlesite, but the identification of Charlesite has recently been called into question. Charlesite was generally assumed to be the paler yellow form of Ettringite group minerals in the mines, but in reality visual identification alone is not an adequate method of distinguishing them. Other visual features used to distinguish Charlesite crystals include extensive gemmy areas, lustrous faces, and excellent terminations all of which are seen in this specimen. This fine miniature specimen displays a parallel to sub-parallel group of prismatic crystals individually measuring to 2.5 cm in length. In some specimens chemical zonation from Sturmannite to Charlesite is claimed. This attractive pale sulphur yellow specimen of what was once believed to be 'Charlesite' from the mine might more correctly be termed Ettringite group but its historic labelling is kept to highlight its difference to more typical Ettringite or Sturmannite.","brand":"Crystal Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57780969832783,"sku":"CC1662","price":1110.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1011\/3748\/2063\/files\/CC1662.jpg?v=1783973103"},{"product_id":"hausmannite-and-hematite","title":"HAUSMANNITE and HEMATITE","description":"A well formed lustrous metallic black crystal of Hematite takes pride of place on this specimen, displaying a cone like form. The Grossular in this example forms as two epitaxially aligned crystals, one 5 cm across and the smaller to 3.5 cm. Internally, these crystals are coloured-zoned with a very dark brown core, the gooseberry to apple green outer layer is 5 to 6 mm wide. Both crystals are double terminated, both having slightly raised three-sided pyramidal terminations at one end and a flat pinacoid at the opposite end. The pyramidal termination of the large crystal is partly modified due to the proximity of a now disappeared tourmaline crystal. The terminations and prism faces have a silky-satin lustre; the prism faces are moderately striated and both crystals are a mottled mix of various shades of plum and light cherry-red.
