ex. Martin Zinn Collection
A fine specimen of Inesite with Hubeite on Quartz, probably from the Fengjiashan Mine, Daye Co., China - the type locality for Hubeite. The Inesite is the major feature of the specimen, with crystals richly encrusting three faces of a large prismatic Quartz crystal. The gemmy light pinkish brown Inesites are of the distinctive bladed habit measuring on average 0.7cm long, some displaying a bow-tie habit. Rhombic crystals of Calcite to one side of the Quartz crystal are also heavily coated with Inesite. Of added interest is a larger spray of red-pink Inesite crystals measuring to 1.5cm long growing out at right angles to the Quartz host. The rare species Hubeite forms lustrous dark red-brown bladed crystal clusters measuring to 0.5cm in both bow-tie and fan-like forms. The single Quartz crystal host is very well developed, with glassy lustre and a fine colourless gemmy termination in which a feathery white phantom can be seen. The pinky-grey Calcite forms an intergrown group of rhombic crystals with silky luster, associated with small to 2mm cubic crystal of light yellow metallic Pyrite. We have not finished yet with the species on this complex specimen! Our final crescendo are "cubo-octahedral" tetragonal microcrystals to 1.5mm of glassy Apophyllite. The Apophyllite crystals partly to completely envelope the Inesite, Hubeite, Quartz and Calcite crystals in a glittering finish. A fantastic aesthetic combination specimen from the now classic site in China.
