A smashing specimen of Azurite from the Broken Hill Ore-body, NSW. The Azurite forms a fantastic sparkling druse of well formed crystals to 3mm. The specimen is composed of a layered red-brown Goethite matrix, which has been overgrown by elongate millimetre sized grains of yellow Smithsonite, then pale green Malachite. This has created an uneven surface with raised areas and rod-like shapes, which has been richly coated by the sparkling deep blue Azurite. Other species noted on the underside of the specimen are tiny sparsely scattered crystals of light brown Chlorargyrite, and small areas of Cerussite. A fine specimen of Azurite from the area.
