BL2814
ex. Claus Hedegaard Collection
A classic example of Thomsenolite from a classic site, at the Ivigtut Cryolite Deposit, Greenland. The Thomsenolite is seen as sharp prismatic crystal to nearly 1cm long lineing many cavitys in the specimen. The prismatic Thomsenolite crystals show tabular parallel growth extensions in a cross like form . The Thomsenolite crystals are lustrous with a translucent white colouration. Prismatic colourless crystals of Pachnolite to 0.4cm long are apparent in some of the cavities, along with octahedral crystals of Ralstonite modified by the cubic face. Some cavitys are lightly coated with Fe oxides quite typical with specimens from the deposit. Other associated minerals are light brown cleavages of Siderite and Galena. An excellent specimen of three Ivigtut minerals.
