A fine hand sized specimen of Calcite from the Alston Moor area in the North Pennine Ore Field, Cumbria. The Calcite forms almost transparent to translucent inter-grown crystals to 5.5cm across, finely striated on the terminated faces, with a silky luster. The crystals stand up from one another in a pleasing group. The matrix is a mixture of Calcite and Dolomite in a dark Limestone.
