A fine small cabinet specimen of Rutile on Hematite from the Cavradi Gorge, Switzerland. The Rutile forms deep red lustrous short bladed crystals to nearly 0.4cm long. The Rutile has grown epitaxial on the Hematite (meaning it has grown on the Hematite in an orientation controlled by the crystal structures). The Hematite forms a bright metallic stairway of ascending sub-parallel pseudohexagonal crystals, individually to 1.5cm diameter. The crystal faces of the Hematite display trigonal growth patterns sending light in all directions. Lustrous translucent white, stepped growth crystals of Adularia Feldspar to 2.3cm enhance and frame the crystals of Hematite. A really pleasing specimen of its type from a classic Swiss location.
