An exceptional specimen of Alabandite - a Manganese Sulphide. This specimen is from a very recent find, and only a limited number of specimens were seen for sale at Munich (2010). The crystals are very well formed, in modified octahedrons, silvery grey with an oily to metallic lustre, and smooth to slightly pitted crystal faces. Individual crystals to nearly 2cm width, and the main crystal is a spinel-law twin, with re-entrant angles clearly seen. The Alabandite is found in combination with pale pink Rhodochrosite. Alabandite has been known from this mine previously but not in this quality until this year. Elsewhere the only locations to produce high quality Alabandite were Romania (type location) in the 1800s, and Broken Hill, Australia which produced dendritic specimens. Exceptional for the species!Size: 4.8 x 3.5 x 2.7 cm (Small Cabinet)
